Personal Background

Introduction Video

Beyond the Professional Stack.

While my career is defined by building software and leading product strategy, this page is about the person behind the keyboard. I'm a lifelong learner with a bias for action, whether that’s refactoring a codebase or perfecting some choux pastry.

Below is a look at the hobbies, passions, and personal projects that keep me busy when I'm not in the CLI. If you're curious about the specific story of how I pivoted from Mechanical Engineering and an MBA into Software Development, you can explore my Interactive Journey on the Professional Experience page.

Outside the CLI

When I'm not writing code or using AI to create marketing assets, you can usually find me eating, either while recreating in the great outdoors or at home! I love learning new skills and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. Whether that's learning to bake bread, telemark ski, or whitewater kayak, I'm always up for a new challenge.

Featured Adventures

In 2024, I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail from Canada to Mexico and built a 4-season slide-in camper from scratch with my wife, amongst other adventures.

Backpacking the PCT

The Pacific Crest Trail

At the start of 2024, I was laid off from my role at Amberbox. My wife and I had often talked about hiking the PCT. So we set out to do it. She requested unpaid time off work and I made plans to pursue my own goals, including building a 4-season slide-in camper. She got the time off approved and an adventure was born. We hiked over 2000 miles of the PCT from June 15 - December 1, 2024. It's hard to describe how amazing it was.

Building the Camper

Building a 4-Season Camper

For many years, I happily slept under a topper in the back of my truck. But during the winter and early spring, cold temperatures, wet clothes, and blowing snow made this setup less than ideal. In 2024, after being laid off from my role at Amberbox, I had the time and motivation to think about how a camper could handle these situations. But I wasn't bringing in money and wasn't convinced that a camper would be worth the investment. So I built the MVP.
